"Let Us Not Become Weary Of Doing Good," Galatians 6:9"
When Hurricane Helene hit the North Carolina mountains in September, we were asked to donate time, money, and supplies to help affected communities with rescues, repairs, and rebuilding. Many, including some of you, responded quickly.
Within hours, food, tents, blankets, and other supplies began flooding the area. It came from churches, individuals, neighbors, strangers, clubs, and organizations, both far away and near. There was a generous outpouring of money that continues today. Some were compelled to drive into the mountains with trucks, chainsaws, and brooms to lend a hand.
The outpouring was an example of doing good to help our neighbors. And it wasn't isolated. Christians, and other Americans, always respond to those needing help. But sometimes the need can seem overwhelming. The demands of poverty, racism, drought, famine, and war seem to be constantly in the news.
We have a responsibility to help in any way and in any amount we can, even if we are weary.
Our responses are doing just what they should. The people of North Carolina's mountain communities are rebuilding though life will never be the same without loved ones and friends killed or homes and businesses destroyed.
